Bear Trap Beauty

As I continue to get older, I realize that getting out is about so much more than getting powder. Or getting cardio. Or getting tired. Sometimes it's about getting high - the all natural and drug free way of course. And one of the best ways to find that high is by seeking and appreciating and absorbing beauty. This takes time and requires one to really slow down.

The 2024-2025 snow season has been pretty tough so far (as of February 5, 2025) - marginal snowpack depth, sporadic storms, warm tempeatures resulting in high elevation snow lines, and - especially lately - rampant winds. So I've gone into the high country for beauty. Armed with my legs, lungs, and my trusty phone camera, I have tried to capture wild, remote, difficult-to-access beauty.

So I don't need to, and won't need to, give the statistics on these pictures such as date, time, partner, snow depth, avalanche danger and wind speed. That wasn't the point of taking them. They were taken sometime in the January 2025 timeframe, over multiple dusk patrol tours. At the end of the day, the point of taking them was to enjoy the beauty. And let their inherent beauty speak for itself.

I feel like I'm getting old but I'm going to say it anyway - one of the primary reasons I now ski is for the beauty.
